The Metropol Hotel Moscow was opened in 1905 as a part of the grandiose project of Savva Mamontov. The project united the hotel with exhibition halls, restaurants and a theatre into one big complex in the center of Moscow. Such famous artists as K. Korovin, M. Vroubel, V. Polenov together with the engineer S. Chokolov and the architect L. Kekushev worked at the project. A legend says that Sergey Esenin spoke about his love to Isadora Dunkan in the central restaurant of the Metropol Hotel Moscow. It was here that M. Rostropovich met G. Vishnevskaya scenes for American "Doctor Jivago" were filmed the fashion designer V. Udashkin demonstrated his first collection.
After the reconstruction that was finished in 1991, the Metropol Hotel Moscow was claimed a hotel of the highest category and became the first hotel in Moscow working in accordance with the international service standards. In September 1999 the Metropol Hotel Moscow was honored the annual prize in tourism.
