The Savior on the Blood Church is definitely among most recognizable views of the city can be found on the Griboyedov Canal. The Church was constructed in the place of the murder of Emperor Alexander II on 1 Mar 1881.  People all over Russia collected money to built the Church and show their respect and love for the murdered Emperor. The Church looks a bit like a church-building from the 17th century following all the traditions of those times. A lot of visitors notice how similar Church on the Spilled Blood looks to the Church of St. Basil the Blessed in Moscow. Indeed, the composition and shapes of that Church were taken as a prototype for Savior on the Blood.  The church is a unique architectural monument. It is richly decorated with mosaics outside and inside (7000 square meters). It is the only building in Russian (Pseudo Russian) style in St. Petersburg.
Moreover, the interior is unique, boasting of the mosaic panels made in Frolov's' workshop to the originals by outstanding Russian artists, including V.Vasnetsov, M.Nesterov, A.Riabushkin and others. This is the largest mosaic ensemble existing on the church facades and interior walls. The Savior on Spilled Blood is a great example of Russian history and culture for those interested. The museum which is now opened to all visitors gives an overview of the historic and artistic value of the Church.
